Glitter styles can be used in PSP as long as they come with seamless tiles - which I don't think I've ever seen a set of styles NOT come with seamless tiles. It's been a long time since I upgraded from PSP to PS but if I remember right, all you have to do is open the tile and make it your pattern.

Other styles like acrylic and outlined, usually cannot be used in PSP unless they specifically say so. Most styles come in an .asl file, which is not supported by PSP. At least I never found a way, then again I only used PSP for a few months before I found out that PS was just the best program for me, so others who have used PSP might be able to chime in a little more.

What I would suggest is searching for filters. When I did use PSP, I was usually able to accurately copy most acrylic type of styles with the Eye Candy glass filter, but it costs money. They have a trial version that you could download. I've actually found some really awesome free filters out there, I'm sure you could find some that would be of use, and maybe there's a glass filter that does about the same thing as Eye Candy. If you plan to use them for making kits they would of course have to be for CU, but most of the free filters I've seen are okay for CU.

Danos Pookie uses PSP and has vast knowledge of the subject hee hee hee.

I used PSP for a few months before switching over to CS also. but the above answer is correct. There are also some nice filters by medhi. I recommend the classic eraser and the genuine eraser there.

I also use PSP primarily, but use PSE for a few styles I couldn't mimic in PSP. Personally, I'd prefer to do everything in PSP, but sometimes, I just can't live without something :)

As for the filters... most require that the end-user HAVE the filter - you cannot redistribute the filter itself as CU, but you can make products using the filter (like elements).

You can make a lot in PSP that mimics most styles out there... I generally prefer the soft acrylics I can mimic in PSP over most styles because they're less glossy. I think the most important tools for PSP users are scripts. Scripts are to PSP like actions are to PS and PSE users.

Seamless glitter tiles are a must... They're quick and painless to save in PSP and they're actually WAY easier to use in PSE than styles.

Vicky my sweet.

You cannot use Photoshop styles with PSP. However you can use Photoshop Brushes with PSP by first using ABR Viewer to view them and exporting the brushes as a PNG file which you can then import into PSP as a custom brush.

Glitters - love, love glitters but you cannot use glitter styles in PSP. However and this is happening more and more. Some designers include the glitters as seamless Jpegs with their style file so that they can sell to a wider market.

Scripts - Be very careful what you buy. There are people now who are writing scripts for Photoshop CS2, CS3 etc. These scripts won't work in PSP.

If you want to make acrylics etc. Have a look at my tutorial site. There are numerous tutorials there using photoshop filters that show you how to make elements, one of which is a tutorial on acrylic elements.

When it comes down to it, there is not a lot that you cannot do in PSP that PS can do better. The only time I really like PS is for stroking my elements when I QC. I wish that facility was available with PSP

I have a script for PSP that does mimick that stroke in PS and it is called Stray Pixel Catcher. "Stroking" like that can be done in PSP in a different way.

For styles, if you can get someone to run a style in Photoshop on a large surface, and save the pattern layer in a jpg format, then you can use it in PSP. In fact, Styles in PS are just a combinaison of pattern, plus cutout or bevel effect. And most of them CAN be reproduced with PSP as long as you have the base pattern to use. The bevel and cutout can be done in PSP. In fact, i was given permission to use a felt style, and convert it to a preset in PSP and it works just like a style!
